Business Plan Appeal - Five Rules For Writing Attention Grabbing Headlines

The success of a business plan stands or falls on its ability to get potential investors to take a moment to read it. Nothing works better for doing this than well-written headlines designed to interrupt and engage investors. Here are five fundamental rules for writing and incorporating headlines into your business plan.

More important than anything else, try to get investors?self-interests into every headline you write. Make your headlines suggest to investors that there is something about your business plan or venture they want. This rule seems so obvious. Yet, absent omitting headlines entirely, it is the rule most often violated. Replace overused one word headings like “Company”, “Products”, “Market”, Financials” with headlines that appeal to investors?self-interests like making money, protecting their investment, or building trust.

Be sure to get news worthy information like new products, new uses for old products, or technological breakthroughs into your headlines whenever possible.

Avoid curiosity?headlines. Marketing and advertising professionals have proven through testing and experience that the effectiveness of the average curiosity headline is, at best, doubtful. For every curiosity headline that succeeds in getting an investor to read further, a dozen will fail. Instead, combine curiosity with news or self-interest to create a single, more compelling headline capable of drawing investors into your plan.

Take a positive angle with your headlines. Avoid headlines that paint gloomy or negative pictures of your business venture or markets. For example, if you are targeting a market with millions of suffers, emphasize in your headlines how the business venture can benefit them.

Demonstrate through your headlines that here is a business plan that will generate results and is backed by evidence. Let your headlines educate investors about the opportunity, risks, and the available options.

Of course it goes without saying that in using any of these rules be sure to make your headline believable. In most cases, too good to be true?headlines will not draw experienced investors into your plan.

Create Your Own Business Cards, Part 2

This is the second part of creating your own business card. If you missed the first one, let me know: http://www.ezinearticles.com/http://www.ezinearticles.com/mailto:webmistress@janes-place.com

Click in the box, where you want your text to appear.Type in your text. Make sure the text is where you want it. For example, in my card the bottom text wasn’t under my logo. To put it under the logo, I highlighted the text I wanted under the logo and clicked on the left button on the tool bar.

You can change the font, by going to the ‘Format Menu’ and choosing ‘Font’. Choose your Font size and the type of Font you want. Click ‘ok’. NOTE: Be sure you choose a Font that is easily read. If you don’t, you may as well not have a business card.

NOTE: If you create your card and don’t like the way it looks, you can undo the changes, by going to the ‘Edit Menu’ and choose ‘Undo’. You can also highlight the area you want to do over and undo it the same way.

If you create your Business Card with a URL or Email, be sure to turn off the hyperlink like we did for our Letterhead.

You can print the Business Cards your self or have them printed professionally. For best results, they should be printed on 250 gsm or thicker paper. Most printers can only handle 160 gsm, therefore you might want to go the professional printer route. If you are operating on a small budget, like most small businesses, print them yourself. That way the cost will just be for the ink and paper.

If you choose to have them printed professionally, you will need to copy it to a floppy disk. To do this, go to ’start’ — ‘programs’ –’Windows Explorer’ . Click on the + next to ‘My Documents’. Choose the folder your Business card is in and double-click on it. On the right side of the screen, you will see the file, ‘Business Card’. Right-click on it and choose ‘Send To’ — 3 1/2 Floppy A’. It will then be copied to your Floppy Disk. Take this disk to the professional printing place and they will do the rest.

If you choose to print them yourself, you will need to create more than one card and buy the paper to print them on [at least 160 gsm].

To create more than one card, we will copy and paste the original card. Click inside the card area. Go to the ‘Table Menu’ — ‘Select’ — ‘Table’. Go to the ‘Edit Menu’ and choose ‘Copy’. Go to the space directly under the first card and hit enter. Go to the ‘Edit Menu’ and choose ‘Paste Cells’. A copy of your business card will appear. Continue this process until you finish the first row. Word will automatically move to the second row. Continue this process until the page is full. Go to the ‘File Menu’, choose ‘Print’. Under ‘Page Range’, be sure that ‘all’ is selected. Choose the number of copies you want and click ‘ok’.

Leverage Your Marketing Dollars With Advertising Balloons

Gaining the attention of prospects and turning them into customers is an ongoing challenge. With so many brands competing in so many marketing channels, it’s easy for your message or product to get lost in the noise. Small or local companies with marketing budget constraints face an even greater challenge when competing with the seemingly unlimited budgets of national or multinational companies. The key to attracting customers is to leverage your advertising budget to garner the most attention for the least amount of money.

Advertising balloons and advertising blimps can help generate the interest of prospective customers and draw greater traffic to your location, whether it’s a booth at a trade show or a retail outlet. In an outdoor setting, advertising blimps and advertising balloons inevitably draw the attention of passersby. Visible by car or on foot, advertising blimps and advertising balloons present a cost-effective marketing strategy that will create traffic, generate sales, and increase profits.

There are a number of types of advertising balloons that you can use to leverage your marketing dollars in order to maximize your profits:

Cold Air Inflatables - Up to 25 feet tall, cold air inflatable advertising balloons can be purchased or rented. You can attach your business signage to standard cold air inflatable advertising balloons, or you can have custom balloons made with your logo or slogan. Once the flat balloon is tethered, you simply have to attach a fan in order to have the large balloon come to life. Cold Air Inflatables are great for parking lots, parks, or other large outdoor spaces.

Helium Advertising Blimps - Helium inflatables are blimps that range from seven feet long to 30 feet long. These advertising blimps can be tethered to the ground or to the roof of your building for additional height. True attention-grabbers, helium blimps can be custom made with your company name or logo.

Large Balloons with Helium - You can utilize large helium balloons - which can be custom made in any shape or with any message - inside your retail space, at trade shows, at street fairs, or at strategic places in a parking lot or in front of the store.

Parade Balloons - Every community has a number of parades during the year. Small businesses can make a huge impact with large balloons specifically made for parades. Custom advertising parade balloons can embody any theme or message, and are a great way to convey your message to the community.

When you think about all of the times an advertising balloon or advertising blimp has cause you to turn your head or look skyward, you understand the power of this inexpensive marketing tool.

Double Your Sales Potential With Double-sided Business Cards

Swapping business cards is one of the most basic and common forms of networking in the business world. With something that is so common practice, people often hand out cards blindly while not really thinking about what the card does AFTER you hand it out.

How do your clients feel about your business card? Put yourself in their shoes.

Is it valuable to them?

Does it solve a problem?

Take advantage of the extra real estate on the other side

Most business owners don’t utilize the backside of their business cards. It’s prime space to include important facts, offers, and information that help sell your company to the holder. Including valuable offers on your business card will make it worth holding on to.

P.T.O - How to get someone to turn over your business card

One small abbreviation added to the front of your cards can double your success rate. P.T.O. (Please Turn Over) lets the holder know there is something of value of the backside, and it would be in their best interest to check it out. Alternatively, you could include “See back for special offer” if you have the space for it.

Now that you have their attention, reel them in with a:

Survey, redeemable for a free gift

Punch card for frequent clients

Valuable coupon URL to a special webpage targeting business card recipients

Research your sector to learn what business card marketing words will flip their switch and turn them on to your company. Give them what THEY want.

Even if you only hand out 50 cards using this technique, you’ve just created 50 opportunities for new business. Just imagine the possibilities that would come with having 1000 highly effective business cards floating around.

Now that you’ve found the secret recipe for business card marketing success, hand those cards out wherever and whenever you can. The more you hand out, the better chance you have of scoring another life-time customer.

Add More Pizzazz To Your Ad For More Profits

I recently completed a Marketing Makeover for an Ad
that wasn’t generating results for the owner of a
Piano Tuning Business.

Here is the original ad:

========================================
A BETTER PIANO

A well tuned and adjusted piano is a beautiful instrument.
It is a joy to play and listen to.
Each string is raised slightly and then lowered
to the true pitch for the most stable tuning.

Yes, it is a better piano:
because it is well maintained, it will last longer, and
its value will actually increase.

For a better tuning please call:
Ray Meinhardt, Piano Technician
218-631-3451
======================================

Although the heading was centered and bold, it wasn’t an
effective headline because it didn’t catch the attention of
the target market.

Regardless of how small your Ad is, it still must answer
“What’s In It For Me?” for your target market.
In order to answer that question you must know how
your service can solve their problem.

For our Piano Tuner, his target market is dealing
with the following problems:

1. They have invested a lot of money into their piano
and they want to keep it well maintained.

2. They use their piano for entertaining guests,
and if it isn’t properly tuned the resulting music
will be embarrassing to them.

3. They want to get the most out of their investment,
and feel that properly tuned pianos play better music.
This also satisfies their need to have the best.

4. They want to increase the value of their investment.

Since the goal of the Ad is to generate response from
prospects currently in need of a Piano Tuner,
the Marketing Makeover is focused on catching
their attention and getting them to call.

Here is the Ad Marketing Makeover:
===================================

“My Friends All Laughed When I Sat Down At My
Piano - Expecting To Hear Embarrassing Off Key Sounds…
But When I Began To Play, They Were Mesmerized
By The Beautiful Music”

Tune your embarrassing off keys into beautiful music
today by calling Ray Meinhardt, Piano Technician
at (218) 631-3451

Mention this Ad and receive our
FREE Perfect Melody Piano Package!
(includes a Precision Tune Piano Analysis)
===================================

The headline in the new Ad will still be bold and centered,
but it now answers “What’s In It For Me?” for prospects
suffering from the embarrassment of an off key piano.

The new Ad now features an offer designed to
generate greater response from prospects.

The Perfect Melody Piano Package will consist
of marketing materials designed to position
our Piano Tuner as an expert, and the only solution
to the problems faced by his target market.

The Piano Analysis is the most important component
of the package because it will get him in front of
his prospects who have raised their hands and indicated
a need for his services.

To convert more leads into sales, he can offer a special limited time
introductory offer to prospects after completing the Piano Analysis.

Now that the Ad has a compelling headline and offer,
it needs to be placed in publications read by piano owners.
If placed in several publications at the same time, the
results can be tracked by placing a special code at the
bottom of the Ad for each publication.

Then the Ad can be removed from publications that
are not producing results, and ran more frequently in
publications that are producing results.

Once you have a winning Ad, get more mileage from it
by using the marketing message in Flyers and Postcards,
and other marketing materials.

When your Ad is on a winning streak it will not only
pay for itself many times over, but it will also produce
more profits so you can grow your business.

Stimulus-Response

It is useful to go into an understanding of some of the finer points of maximizing responses to produce business when you want it.

1) Position - There is an ugly phrase that is based upon some measure of a truthful principle It is “last liar has the best shot”. Humans remember the last thing that they heard on a subject. I once got a job through an employment agency partly because the agent thought I had the best chance of getting it if he placed me in the last position for the interview. It worked. The human mind is somewhat like a computer. It processes information and retains it. It recalls it with more ease if it was the last of the stimulus received. That’s why people cram for tests; the recent ingesting of information is easily recalled.

2) Frequency - Reinforcement of the message causes ease of recall. (unlike computers, which recall all with the same level, emotion is a non-factor with electronic memory.) This is always the reason all media companies advise you to run ads frequently. Even if they have an agenda, the theory is based on somewhat valid statistical evidence.

3) Positive Emotional Reliability - The other two are valid, but, the more the message touches the heart, the easier it is to remember. So, combine both and get the best of both avenues. It is always the memories that stir up emotions that are more easily and vividly recalled.

4) Variety of Approaches - If you see the same ad over and over, unless it really touches you in a positive way, and even then sometimes, it loses it’s effect because the instant you see or hear it, you shut off the conscious absorption of it because you are already familiar with it and you shut down receiving it any more. This is why Madison Ave. tries to use “funny” all the time. This is done to get people to pay attention to the whole message They would be better off using a positive emotional benefit to get them to listen with impact.

So, change the ad, rotate ads that deliver a logical message, an emotional response and an unusual message. Companies run ads frequently because they work. However, they would work better if they varied the angle of appeal, thus would not become stale too quickly.

How to Avoid Failure in Your Small Business Advertising

Small business advertising shouldnt be done like most of the advertising you see on T.V. ?or hear on the radio. There ARE exceptions, of course. But for the most part, small businesses shouldnt do much of the following:

1) Institutional advertising (a.k.a. Madison Avenue?type advertising).

2) Public relations or simply publicity seeking.

3) Any type of response advertising that’s non-measurable.

The kind of advertising you SHOULD be doing is measurable. By this I mean you can ?/p>

a) ?control costs.

b) ?measure results.

Small business advertising that doesn’t fit these criteria is mostly like throwing money down a hole. (Like I said, there are exceptions. But if you try to promote your business using public relations youd better have a business that can benefit from that plus get the help of a professional who specializes in it.)

Institutional ?Madison Avenue type stuff ?doesnt work in small business advertising any more than it effectively works for big companies using it. Its just that big companies typically have big budgets they can spend on bad advertising without going under financially.

Thats a luxury most of us dont have.

Direct marketing is different. You can control its costs. Taylor it to your ad budget. And measure its effectiveness based on response to the offer in the ad or sales letter.

Examples of response triggers used in effective small business advertising include:

* Phone calls asking for a direct response ?like a sales appointment ?or a purchase ?or an invitation to come into the store with a certain customer code?one can use to receive a gift or purchase discount.

* A TV or radio commercial that asks for a direct response ?like having the customer write or call in and tell what station they heard the ad on to get a free gift or special discount.

* Any type of media that asks for a direct response ?like redeemable coupons sent through the mail ?a sales letter send through the post or Email, with an invitation attached for a special after hours?sale ?a postcard offering a 2 for 1 restaurant special ?or an invitation to call in and ask for free information.

Your small business advertising is going to be very wasteful unless you make the right offers to the right people. Being in tune with the needs, desires and motivations of your potential customers is crucial.

For example ?if Jacks Sporting Goods store advertises a 30% discount sale on all golf equipment by sending 5,000 brochures through the mail to nearby residents the waste-factor is going to be extremely high.

After all, how many of those residents are golfers? Probably only a small percentage. And of those who are golfers, how many of them will come in for Jacks sale?

In this case, most of his small business advertising dollars are wasted.

However ?if Jack takes that same offer ?and sends it directly to 500 golfers in his area the response will be much higher. Hes able to get the names and addresses of likely golfers from a list broker by renting the names of people in his area who receive golf magazines.

See the difference?

Jack doesnt even have to mail out all 500 letters at once. If his budget is a little tight, he can stagger his mailing over a period of days. Or even limit the sale to those bringing in a coupon received through his mailing to test the effectiveness of his direct mail campaign.

Any small business advertising failing to ?/p>

* offer a free gift(s)

* give a time limit on the offer so buyers will be motivated to act quickly

* award a bonus or premium of some sort just for coming into the store

* present a sale or discounted pricing

* announce something new (i.e., product, service, price)

?should be avoided. As a matter of fact ?the more of these elements in your advertising the better.

An ad containing each of the above ingredients ?targeting prospects known to be interested in the product/service?stands a very good chance of being a winner.

Your small business advertising doesnt have to fail. Once you learn the key ingredients youll never again worry about throwing advertising dollars away.

Target Your Advertising With Free Articles

You need to take advantage of targeted advertising frequently to help make your online business successful. Targeted advertising means that you are advertising primarily to those who may actually purchase your product or service. You only reach those that may already be interested in what you have to offer instead of spending your advertising budgets on trying to reach everyone. One way to achieve targeted advertising is to use free reprint articles or custom written articles that will ultimately reach your targeted audience.

A lot of times when a new tv show comes out on tv there is a target market that the tv program is shooting for so they also search for advertisers who would fit with that audience. Also along with the target audience often times the show will be tested with the target audience and other audiences long before its even allowed to be shown on tv to make sure that they know what market to advertise to or that the show would even be successful. Also often times when show has been on for a little while they will do studies to see who watches the show and advertising and then will adjust the show and marketing accordingly.

Why have advertisers been doing this for years? Because it is shown to be effective and cost efficient. Billboards have long shown to be very ineffective and expensive. A billboard advertises to everyone that drives by it instead of focusing on a target audience.

It would be silly to advertise products targeted towards women during cartoons, it would also not make sense to advertise children’s toys during the overnight hours when most of the children are sleeping. Advertisers want to advertise to those who may actually have an interest in their product or service.

How all this can be applied to your online business? You need to start hitting your targeted audience with your advertising. One easy, effective, and inexpensive method of doing this is through free reprint articles. Free reprint articles are articles that you write and then have distributed in ezines and newsletters. You write the article offering information that the reader will find useful or entertaining, and the hope is that the reader will then use the authors resource box at the bottom of the article to visit your website. A distribution service can help you get one of these free reprint articles placed into dozens of ezines and newsletters if the article is well written. You will include a small text box at the bottom that offers information about yourself and a link back to your website.

These free reprint articles will go out to all of these ezines and newsletters and the publisher of each of those will decide whether or not to use your article. This is where the targeted marketing comes into play. A publisher will determine if the article is relevant to his or her subscribers. If the publisher decides that it is relevant, the publisher will include it in their next publication. This is a very easy way to reach your targeted audience. It is also relatively cheap considering that all you have to pay for is the distribution service if you write the article yourself.

Some people do not feel comfortable with their own writing or simply do not have the time or energy to do the writing. If you are one of these people there are always ghostwriters for hire who will do the work for you. You can then publish this work as your own, with your information in the resource box and the link back to your website. Ghostwriters know that you will be placing your name or a pen name in the article as the author, and they agree to surrender to their client’s any and all copyrights to the article.

If you want to reach your targeted audience in an easy, inexpensive, and effective manner then consider the use of the free reprint articles to reach your potential customers. Whether you write the articles yourself or pay a ghostwriter it will be a worthwhile investment. Even paying a ghostwriter and the distribution service, you will still be getting more bang for your buck than if you were to simply place an ad that is targeted to everyone. Remember, these ezines and newsletters that carry your articles will be going to people who are already interested in the topic that you deal with. Get started today and watch the new customers roll in.
