Private Investigators also carry out a large variety of work that is not usually associated with the investigation industry that is usually in the mind of the public. A good example would be PI’s that are involved in process serving, the personal delivery of court summons, subpoenas and other legal documents to the different parties in a legal case.
Another possible work for private investigators would be the tracing of debtors in hiding. There are different agencies that specialize in a particular field of expertise. There are PI agencies that only deal with tracing people. There are others that specialize in different surveillance methods or locating and dealing with unwanted forms of electronic surveillance.

If you have been at the job search process for a while a good way to make contact with a company is to follow up. If you have gone to the effort of making contact by sending them a resume or filling out an application the least you should do is make sure that they received your information.
A great benefit to this is that when you ask for a confirmation that they received the information they will actually have to look for it and if they initially did not look closely at it they will be more likely to scan it for qualifications.
A good idea would be to also follow up on any interviews that you go on. A follow up shows that you have sincere interest in the job and that you are proactive. Employers like people who are proactive because this gives them a sense that you will do what needs to be done to get the job done.
There are several ways to follow up after the interview and you should take advantage of as many as you can especially on the jobs you have a high interest in.

When you are in the process of looking for a job you should buy a box of thank you cards, these cards can be generic because you will want to personalize them. After an interview you can take notes about what was discussed and what most interest you about the job. A couple of days later write a thank you note to the person who interviewed you and make sure you let them know that you enjoyed meeting with them and add something they will remember about your conversation.
You can also have the thank you cards with you and after leaving the interview go ahead and write the thank you note and drop it in the mail. This will keep everything fresh in your mind.
Make sure that your references that you provide are aware that they may be getting a call from employers. Also, have a conversation with your references to find out that they will be able to provide positive information about you. Ask them to be honest with you about what they will say when asked; the last thing you want is somebody who will not give you a good reference this will kill any chance of getting the job.
Providing accurate contact information is a must. Make it as easy as possible for an employer to contact you by leaving correct phone numbers, email address, and your home address. When an employer is trying to contact you they will want the information at their fingertips if they have to hunt for the information this could make them look at a more accessible candidate.
One of the mistakes people make is to not follow up after an interview and if you make following up a practice than you will set yourself apart from other candidates. Let the employer know you have an interest in the job and they will be more excited about taking the next step with you.

Have you ever considered the fact that very few obstacles are preventing men getting training for careers of their choice? Changing job at any time for men is not much of a problem at all.
You will equally agree that career situation for women is the opposite of the above career situation for men. Women are seen to be homemakers whose places must be at homes cooking and taking care of children and husbands.

Ironically, it is for these same reasons that men who make decisions in the different work places are averse to hiring women; because they feel that women cannot give their all working day jobs and taking of their homes. Men, therefore prefer that women stay home and take care of children instead of pursuing careers.
Which is why once a woman leaves work to attend to the home work of raising children, it becomes very difficult for her to gain entrance back to normal working life. And in 99% of all cases they dont get their husbands support, unless there is a pressing need for additional income at home.

For all the above reasons, most women have found online work at home in this internet age as a diversion from the stumbling blocks placed between them and normal work by men and society at large. And many of them have succeeded working from the comfort of their homes earning more than they could ever have thought possible from a day job.

There are many ways to get an extra income if you cannot afford to work normal full-time hours. This article will show you what is available and what you should avoid. I will use student time as an example, as a students timetable is usually the most inconvenient for full-time work and also changes every semester. However, the opportunities outlined in this article can also apply to other demographics, e.g. single mothers.
Whilst at university, students often think that it will be challenging for them to financially support themselves. This is true only if you decide to avoid work and leave dealing with mounting debts until after you leave university. The truth is, it is not that difficult to get a job. However, getting work does require determination and a bit of leg-work. You also have to decide how much work you want to do. There is a myth that if you work during university you will miss out on the social life. That is not true at all. I worked full-time throughout my university years, while doing a very challenging course, and still had time to socialise.
During university most students take up jobs provided by the university itself, such as bar work. Those jobs are designed especially for students and allow you to choose hours that are flexible enough not to clash with you timetable. However, you will find that jobs at university do not pay very well. Most of the time you will be getting the minimum wage, and considering that you will be working only a few hours, you will pay national insurance and taxes after the first 5,035; this is not the best choice of work. Working flexible hours away from the university is not as difficult as you might think. There will be a number of large stores around your university as well as restaurants and these companies primarily employ students, e.g. Waterstones. You will find that the wage is likely to be much higher than within the university and flexible hours will be offered. However, prepare to work weekends.
Another way of working whilst studying full-time is through agencies. Students often make a mistake of signing up only to one agency. Invest time in undertaking applications provided by the agencies as soon as possible, as they will be providing you with work for the rest of the year. Furthermore, with time you will be able to build up your reputation with agencies, which in turn will allow you to get better work during the summer breaks. There are two tricks of getting good work with agencies: call them every three days and ask for higher-paid jobs and I also found that sending little gifts like chocolates to the person who gets you the work is a good path into obtaining higher-paid jobs, as the person is more likely to call you when a job turns up. The majority of the agencies have different branches that deal with different sectors such as catering, administration, retail, etc. Most of those will not require any experience, however, administration work usually pays most. The highest paid administration jobs are in the investment banks but it is unlikely that you will be able to get those jobs during the semester, but try to get them during the summer holidays.
Another type of job that you can get is in a nightclub. Although these types of jobs will not interfere with your educational schedule, it can be very difficult on you physically, because you are not likely to get back from work until 4am. However clubs often pay very well should you decide to work behind the bar, on the door or even in the cloakroom. Furthermore, you are likely to receive tips, around 20-30 per day. Students who work in a club whilst studying would attend lectures during the day, get some sleep in the early evening, work during the night and get the rest of the sleep during the early morning. The homework should be done between lectures and the early even nap or at the club, while it is quiet.
If your homework does require a lot of time, why dont you try working on the security desk during the night. You can get sleep in the early evening after the lectures, and do all of your work during the night shifts, which are often from 12am-7am. I found that this type of job offers the most undisturbed environment, which allows you to concentrate. Furthermore, because you are only getting one portion of sleep, it is easier to adjust to them than to the club jobs. If a security job is for you, make sure you sign up to different agencies as soon as possible, as you are likely to have quite a lot of competition.
Summer jobs are an ideal opportunity to clear any debts that you have accumulated during the year (within reason). It is best to get work that is related to your course (if you want get a course-related career afterwards), but you might find that getting course-related experience may not pay you very well or even at all. Therefore, you might also need to get a second job in the evenings to bring in sufficient income. It will be extremely difficult on you physically to get club or security jobs if you are working during the day as well. However, try getting waitressing work. Once again, a large number of agencies specialise in this industry, so sign up to as many as possible. Furthermore, there might be some work available in the pubs behind the bar. Try these, however your people skills will be tested, as you are faced with a lot of competition for the pub jobs. An easier job, but not as well paid, is working on reception desks in hotels. The work is also divided into shifts so you will be able to work the evening shift.
If you are good at writing and have a good academic record, you can also work for different assignment websites, e.g. http://www.coursework4you.co.uk. This company will provide you with a list of works that you will need to research and write, outlining the deadline, number of words, the topic and the price. If you are happy with all of the requirements, then you agree to write the work and once you finish they will send you the agreed amount. I used to work for them during my university years and earned 500-700 per week on a part-time basis. However, bear in mind that the quality of work that you need to produce is high. The great thing is that you earn as much as you wish, in your own time, writing on the subjects that you are comfortable with. Furthermore, the staff are really friendly and reliable, so if you have any questions they always help you out, unlike many other companies out there.
If you want just good experience, which is not necessarily related to your future career but pays well, get an internship at an investment bank. The competition is tough for these internships, and you will need to apply about eight months prior to starting. However, if you cannot get an internship job at the bank, try temping. There are a number of agencies that specialise in getting temping jobs just within investment banks, and prior experience is not always required. Other industries, although not as well paid, offer internships, such as insurance companies and financial service companies, e.g. Bloomberg. You will need to investigate if a temping job at a large organisation will pay you better than getting an internship. Internship is likely to offer you better experience, while temping might pay you more, so which one you go for will depend on your priorities. Summer jobs are also available abroad, primarily at skiing resorts (most of them are open during the summer). If you do decide to go for this type of work, pay attention to the accommodation details. Most of the work will offer you cheap self-catering accommodation to go with the job; if not, you will need to undertake some research. Other things to take into consideration are taxes and work permit requirements in the foreign countries. If you get work through an agency, they are likely to sort that out for you.
There are certain jobs that you should steer clear of. Try to avoid getting work via internet schemes, such as survey filling. The worst ones are those that require you to invest your own money first do not do that. If you do get too tempted to enter this type of work, please read the reviews on this company and the product first. There are some legitimate businesses on the internet but most of these will require you to send in your CV, covering letter and education certificates before you can start work. For internet businesses, you will have to register yourself as being self-employed and declare your earnings when the Inland Revenue sends you the self-assessment form. This in turn means that you might be required to pay all of the taxes in one lump sum, so you will need to save.
Finally, remember that you can only get a positive account balance if you are not overspending. If you are expectingto pay taxes at a certain time during the year put the money that you earn in a high-interest savings account, or a cash ISA. Pay off your most expensive credit and store cards first, or transfer the balances to 0% balance transfer credit cards.
Prior to leaving summer jobs, make sure you get references from your bosses. Large organisations only provide standard references, which state when you started and left work and how many sick days you have taken. Therefore, you need to ask for a personal reference from your boss. Get as many references as possible and put them in a safe place you will need them in the future.

According to most salary researchers and guides, getting your MBA can mean a $10,000 to $30,000 salary increase, but don’t let the numbers get you too excited about the possibilities; there are still other factors to consider when calculating the potential for and the size of a salary increase if you get your MBA.
Timing
Timing is everything when you’re trying to get your MBA. If you get the degree too early in your career, you may have trouble finding a job that offers a salary comparable to what you deserve for your advanced degree. At the same time, if you wait too late, you simply may not need it or may not be able to find an employer willing to pay for you to go back to school.
A Free Degree
The advantage to working for one company for a while is that they may be willing to pay for your degree. Then, not only will you be getting a pay raise, but also you’ll be getting a free degree out of the bargain that will come in handy in the future. Just realize that your current employer will want you to promise to stay for a certain amount of time or they won’t pay for the degree. If you do leave the company early, you’ll owe them the cost of at least part of your tuition and sometimes even a hefty interest payment. So, if you’re thinking about leaving soon, think again about allowing the company to pay for your degree.
Get Some Real World Experience First
In most industries, experience is worth much more than a degree. If you’re looking for a significant pay increase, it’s best to work for a while before getting your Masters. Your experience will usually add quite a bit to your new pay, and it can be nice to start a new job with experience and credentials so that you get the highest salary possible starting out. Then, you have nowhere to go but up.
Is the Increase Worth It?
For some people, the salary increase simply isn’t worth all the work. Perhaps you’ve already reached the top of your salary spectrum or maybe as a high ranking executive a simple MBA just doesn’t make sense. You may want to choose a different degree that would better add to your experience and increase your knowledge.
For some people, though, getting a higher degree simply isn’t reasonable. Maybe retirement is only another five years away - why bother now? Decide based on your schedule and needs whether an MBA is really worthwhile for your situation. Don’t get a degree just because it’s a popular thing to do.
Others may find that it makes sense to get a degree but they don’t have time. If this describes your situation, consider getting a degree online. Most of the schools offer classes that are just as challenging, or more challenging, than those offered in traditional programs, and you can make the classes fit your schedule, not the other way around.
Before Signing Up
Before applying and paying for an MBA program, consider the following:
Is the timing right?
Can you get a free degree?
Do you have applicable real world experience?
Is the salary increase worth all that work?
When you’ve answered all the questions, then you’ll be ready to decide whether or not an MBA program is right for you.

As the New Year approaches, have you thought about your career goals? What worked to years ago in planning and managing your career will not work for your career development in the 21st Century. Managing your career in the 21st Century requires preparation, career goal planning and career guidance and ensuring that your time is directed meaningfully.
Here is how to find enjoyment and continue to progress in your career.
1. Determine if your present job is in line with who you are, what you value, and what you are good at. Are you really doing what you want to do? Being self-aware means you become clear about what you stand for and what you have to offer. When you know what you have to offer, you become more powerful and intentional in your work. Doing a good job is no longer good enough to guarantee your career will go well. You are your most important asset. Self-branding provides direction and clarity of purpose for how you work, not just what you do for a living.
2. Identify your job satisfiers and dissatisfiers. Find a way to do more of the tasks/projects that you enjoy.
3. Identify your accomplishments.
4. Take the time to build and maintain relationship with individuals who might impact your work. You will benefit personally and professionally from the time you invest in such relationships.
5. Determine and write down your vision for your professional life. What actions do you need to take that will get you there? Celebrate the steps you take daily to achieve your vision. You can create the life you want! Here are some ways you can do that:
* Keep work in perspective - remember how you left work on time in the summer?
* Manage your stress - identify what causes you stress and how it affects you.
* Take time out - close your door (if you have one), call forward your phone, turn off your e-mail, take a walk. Use this time “during your work day” to prepare for a big meeting, a presentation or work on a project.
* Delegate - are you spending too much time on the administrative process of your job and not utilizing your skills to benefit your long-term goals and your company’s goals?
* Work/Play Balance - what did you enjoy doing during the summer that you want to continue (going to the movies, playing tennis, volunteering, spending time with your kids, seeing friends, etc.)? Put it on your schedule.
6. Be Bold! Dont be afraid to take on some responsibilities in positions above you. Aim to always exceed expectations.
7. Manage your own time. Set boundaries. Learn to say “no” to non-essential use of your time.
8. Look for way to do things better, and more efficiently. Change a routine task - develop a new process. Instead of handling your e-mails as you get them, set aside specific times during the day to respond.
9. Be great at what you do. The knowledge and skill that create success in your current job will position you for your next move.
10. Be aware of roadblocks that can limit your potential to move upward.
11. Take on projects that will most likely benefit you.
12. Have passion for what you are doing and working toward. You will automatically put more effort into it. If you are not feeling passionate about your work ask yourself: is what you should be doing interfering with what you want to be doing?
Remember! Your career must contribute to your life, not the other way around!

Most of us have been there. For one reason or another, your work has not been the best and your boss has noticed. You are called into the office and formally written up and warned to improve your work performance. Are you doomed? Is this the beginning of the end? Absolutely not! It is time to get yourself re-motivated to do the best work possible!
First of All, Allow Yourself to Decompress: This can be a very stressful time and you want to allow yourself to regroup and take a breather to absorb what has happened. It is okay to do that!
Make A Plan: Time to get a pad and pen and evaluate yourself honestly. Have you missed deadlines? Has your workload increased? Or, are you just burned out? Write everything down that you believe to be the culprit.
Time for A Course of Action: If you missed deadlines due to poor time management, approach your boss for ideas on how to improve in this area. They may offer some tips or they may see that the project needs to be shared by more members of the team. This also shows that you are serious about fixing the problem. Are you Burned Out? Do something you have never done before such as taking a cooking class, take a walk in a state park, attend a lecture or meet for a cup of coffee with some friends and browse books at the bookstore. If you are really burned out, try taking a weekend trip with just yourself and indulge. Have a nice meal, sleep late. Break up the monotony! This will help you to know that work AND rest are both important and need to co-exist in your life.
Ask Your Boss For A Follow-Up Meeting: This will show that you want to measure your progress and that you take your job seriously. Ask for feedback and write down everything your boss tells you. Remember, they are trying to help you. Ask for help when you need it.
Continue the Course!: Do Not let yourself become burned out again, or overwhelmed with work! Life is too short. Periodically refer back to your notes to make sure you are staying the course.
Remember to experience equal parts of work and play; you will be a happier person and a more productive worker!

Career coaches, like other professionals, should be judged on their merits and reputation. While anyone can hang a shingle on the door and advertise that they are a career coach, it is practical results that you want. And any reputable career coach should be able to show you a track record of successful job placements for satisfied clients.
1. Check credentials. It is important that they are certified from an accredited organization and have the experience to not only help with interviewing or negotiating, but can rewrite and improve your rsum as well.
2. Ask for references. Don’t be timid about interviewing your career coach and asking for references. If the career coach is good, they will also look forward to touting their successes and achievements and putting you in touch with other clients who can brag about how great they are. When a career coach begins to fidget and change the subject when you ask about their results, it is probably a sign that they lack confidence.
3. Make a connection or don’t hire them. One of the most important things to look for when trying to choose a career coach is a personal connection and feeling of comfortable and open communication. The best career coaches are also the best listeners, and if you don’t feel that you can effectively communicate with your career coach - for whatever reason - then keep looking until you find someone that is a more natural match for you. Career coaching is all about understanding a person’s talents, needs, and goals. And much of the career coaching process is spent talking about choices, options, and strategies for landing the appropriate job for a satisfactory salary.
4. Is your coach asking the right questions? And in order to really listen well, a career coach has to know how to ask the right questions. Just as your potential employers will ask you well-crafted questions to try to get to know you during an interview, a smart career coach will be trained in the art of questioning you to help you see the big career picture.
5. Are you having Ah-Hah moments? When you work with a trained and experienced career coach you should have those moments when a light goes off in your brain and you think to yourself “Wow. I never looked at it that way before”, or “Gee. I never thought about that.” The process should make you think outside the box about career potential. Those are the kinds of coaches who make the difference in helping you find the job of your dreams.
