Want to get your online resum noticed and have employers picking up the phone and calling you? Then forget how pretty your resum is. What really matters is how your resum scores on a search. Most resums today go straight to a computer tracking system that saves online resums in the company database allowing for later searches. A computer will “score” your resum by the number of keywords or “buzzwords” that the employer will find most relevant to their needs. If you don’t account for this, you’ll just sit waiting by the phone for the call that never comes.
Keywords, Keywords, and More Keywords
The magic is in the keywords and how and where you can use them. Focus on the keywords most likely to be used by a human resources person or recruiter doing the resum search for a particular job requirement. The greater the number of relevant keywords, the higher relevancy score your online resum will receive.
Let’s look at the four major keyword areas you need to account for in an online resum that will get an employer to pick up the phone and call you:
1. “Keywords Competencies”:
A.) List this section at the beginning of your resum to introduce your skill sets from an interviewing standpoint.
B.) Include no more than 75 keywords. List as many relevant, searchable keywords that describe your potential job title, technical skills, management or organizational skills, relevant software and/or mechanical abilities and expertise as you can. Include anything that might be important to the particular job.
For example, if you were a Java Programmer, your Keyword Competencies section might look like this:
“Java, Visual C++, perl, ticl, application development, visual basic, Windows NT/XP, programming, GUI, html, project management, layer 2, BSEE, etc”.
2. “Job Description”: Include every title that may pertain to your duties and function. For example, if your official title is “Member of Technical Staff”, other companies may call that a Software Engineer, Software Developer, or even a Programmer. Take this into account when you write your resum for online use. The computer doesn’t care as long as you have all your bases covered for whatever human-based search may arise.
3. “Objective”: Once again, keep it limited to specific keywords when you identify your present and/or aspiring job title with an added major skill or function (such as project management, mergers and acquisitions, electronic design, product verification, quality control, etc).
4. “Past Experience”: Many searches are performed in the interest of finding people who have worked for or with certain companies. This can mean not only working as an employee, but also having worked with their products or with them as a client or vendor. Be sure to list all the major companies with whom you have had connection. This includes experience with their tools or products or your roles as either a vendor or a customer.
Summary
The bottom line is not how pretty your resum looks. The most important element is to cover all the possible keywords that an employer will be searching for. There’s potential gold in your background and you want to make certain that it is brought to the surface. Keywords are truly powerful for this.

Not long ago a woman contacted me the day after she had the worst performance appraisal of her career. Feeling blindsided by unwarranted criticism and unrecognized for the hard work she had contributed during the year, she was ready to walk away from her job!
At that point all I could do was damage control. While I was able to offer advice and strategies to help her gain clarity about what happened, minimize the damage to her self esteem, and help her re-establish communication with her boss, how much better it would have been had she come to see me before her performance review! We could have tracked her progress on key projects, identified challenges she has faced, and developed an action plan to help her overcome them. She might have even walked away with praise and a raise instead of criticism.
Follow these suggestions to make your next performance review a springboard to success.
1. MEET WITH YOUR MANAGER TO SET GOALS FOR THE COMING YEAR. Ask your boss, What is the most important thing I can do for you? What would it take for me to be your dream employee? What would you most like me to accomplish this year?
2. TRACK YOUR PROGRESS TOWARD GOALS AND ON PROJECTS. Identify results youve achieved, make note of comments from others, awards earned, and letters of appreciation.
3. SCHEDULE A QUARTERLY APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR MANAGER. Update him or her on goals reached and new goals identified. Ask for feedback on your performance.
4. THIRTY DAYS BEFORE YOUR REVIEW, SCHEDULE A FIVE TO FIFTEEN MINUTE MEETING WITH YOUR BOSS. Provide a recap of achievements since your last review. Request feedback and ask what other information he or she would like prior to the performance appraisal session.
5. THE WEEK BEFORE YOUR REVIEW, PREPARE AN ACCOMPLISHMENT LIST THAT OUTLINES YOUR WORK SINCE YOUR LAST PERFORMANCE REVIEW. Note your specific projects completed, goals achieved, and challenges faced.
6. DURING THE PERFORMANCE REVIEW, CONFIDENTLY DISCUSS YOUR SUCCESSES. Point out instances when you saved the company money, increased sales, or improved efficiency. Whenever possible demonstrate the dollar value youve added to organization.
7. CALMLY DISCUSS AREAS WHERE YOU FEEL YOU NEED TO IMPROVE. Ask for feedback and really listen to it. Proactively offer a plan outlining the steps you will take to continue to grow and increase your expertise in key areas.
8. IDENTIFY CHALLENGES FACING THE DEPARTMENT OR ORGANIZATION and offer suggestions for streamlining processes and making the department run more effectively. Make your interest in the success of the department and company obvious.
9. STRETCH YOURSELF BY ASKING TO TAKE ON NEW, DIFFERENT, OR MORE CHALLENGING ASSIGNMENTS. Let your boss know you are ready for more responsibility.
10. KNOW WHAT YOU ARE WORTH AND BE WILLING TO ASK FOR IT. But first hear your boss out. He or she may have a number in mind that is better than the one you have identified. Wait until your boss makes the first move then, if necessary, be willing to negotiate for what you wanton the basis of worth not need, of course!

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for paralegals is very good, with an expected growth rate near 33 percent a year through 2010. The bureau notes that compared to other professions, the leap in the paralegal field is dramatic.
The paralegal or legal assistant profession is expected to grow because of a couple of economic factors. One, more law firms are hiring paralegals to do some of the necessary legwork - research and paper work on their behalf. This frees up the attorney for court appearances and for developing client-attorney relationships, two duties a paralegal is not allowed to do. Two, having a paralegal do the work rather than an expensive paid by the hour attorney saves the client money.
Law firms are not the only agencies that hire paralegals or legal assistants. Many corporations, businesses and non profit agencies have also seen the benefit of having a paralegal on staff. If you are considering a career as a legal assistant, keep that in mind and do not narrow your job search only to law firms or private attorneys - unless, of course, your passion is to work for a law office or directly for an attorney.
While the paralegal job market looks great, competition to participate in the paralegal field will be increasingly stiff. With competition growing, the best way to make yourself marketable in the field is to get all the training you possibly can. Once upon a time, legal assistants were trained on the job. There was not professional training other than clerical training that would prepare a person for a career as a paralegal. Many of those paralegals are retiring these days, having been hired in the 1960s or 1970s when the paralegal field really began. Now, the lawyers and firms they have been working for over the last 20 some odd years want their replacements to be trained and ready to work.
Getting training for a career as a legal assistant is convenient, even for those people who have other jobs who want to train in their spare time for a paralegal career. Many community colleges offer paralegal training certification in two year study programs. Some colleges and universities offer paralegal training as part of a four year course of study. Even more opportunities exist online and through correspondence courses. Research all your options and weed out the ones that just don’t make sense for you. When you take time to look at all the training possibilities available, you will see that there is course work available to fit your time and budget constraints.
Of course, even with training and certification as a paralegal, you will still have to get in sync with your boss, whether working for an individual attorney, a firm, or as a paralegal in the business sector. Getting to know the expectations of your job and your role as a paralegal in the office in which you work will also play a factor in your success in your career as a legal assistant.

Some twenty or thirty years ago, finding the right career was restricted by lack of global internet tools, limited by more old-fashioned (if you will) values and opinions, and less important than finding yourself. I remember when my therapist, the savior of all saviors as far as Im concerned, laughed with me over how I had gone about finding the right career: I had signed up to all the courses that I found interesting and many I hoped were in some way related, then tried to decide on a major/career. She lightly joked that a lot of people decide first, then do the footwork of taking the mandatory and essential and relevant courses, doing internships, and getting in at some entry-level. Obviously, I didnt have the tools we have today for finding the right career, nor did I know about their existence and usefulness, at least.
For instance, lots of students will use personality testing and employment/goal assessments for finding the right career - right from the commencement of their semesters in college. ERIK, Psychometric testing tools, and career skills assessment batteries will help to define aptitude and save you time futzing around with majors and minors that you FEEL you MAY likewhen six years later on decide you need to start all over finding the right career, as offshore drilling is not for you or interplanetary travel studies will take too long or anthropological studies of tribes now extinct are wiped off the college catalogs three quarters of the way into your educational plan.

Why didnt the human resources recruiter call me back for an interview? Why didnt I get the job?
As a Career Advisor, I hear the above questions on a regular basis. Conducting follow ups with recruiter or hiring managers reveal some interesting facts.
One of the recruiters I spoke to mentioned that the applicant did an exceptional job in the interview but their professional appearance and hygiene were an issue.
Our society is judgemental. Someone dressed in jeans may be just as intelligent as the person dressed in a suit, but the person wearing the suit will be taken more seriously.
Below are a few things you should do before going on an interview or job fair to insure you will be perceived as a serious candidate:
1. Hygiene - Shower, bathe, floss, gargle, brush your teeth. Use deoderant. Use minimal or no cologne. If you want fresh breath pop a mint in your mouth 10-15 minutes before speaking with the recruiter or going on the interview. No gum. Your nails should be cleaned and trimmed. Women: no chipped nail polish. Wear a neutral nail color or simply wear no color on you nails. Makeup should also be worn in neutral colors.
2. Cloths - The desheveled look is out. What you wear is just as important as what is on your resume. Men: wear a dark suit with a shirt and tie and dark socks. Make sure the suit has been dry cleaned if needed. Women: a dark skirt suit or pants suit is preferred. Hoisery should match skin tone with no runs. Wear comfortable dark shoes. No sandals. You should wear minimal accessories (no long, bold earring or gaudy bracelets and rings). You want the attention to be focused on you, not your accessories.
3. Hair - Be conservative with your hairstyle. Make sure you hair is clean, combed/brushed.
4. Portfolio/Brief Case - I had a discussion with a job fair attendee who carries a plastic bag full of his personal belonging (MP3 Player, pens, wallet, resumes). As he visited companies at the job fair he pulled resumes out of his plastic bag. While he was professionally dressed, carrying a plastic bag full of personal items doesnt send the right message to a potential employer. How will this individual represent our company? You want to look professional so carry a portfolio or briefcase.

Jeremy loved to watch police shows as a kid. This person wanted to be just like Matlock or Magnum P.I. later on in life but this will never because the parents had other plans.
Jeremy grew up from a family of doctors. To continue on with the family tradition, this person had no choice but to continue on with the family legacy.
After graduating from pre-med specializing in biochemistry, this individual noticed something exciting. Being an investigator doesnt always have to be going out watching people or asking questions since this can also be done by working in a lab.
This may have been from watching too much CSI or shows on television such as the forensic files but it proves that the geeks or nerds working behind the scenes also play an important role in solving a case.
With this in mind, Jeremy shifted to pathology and became a medical examiner. The training provided by the college enable this person to work with the police. This meant working on a dead body that came in and bringing justice to those whose lives were cut short by unusual circumstances.
The job Jeremy got after graduation some say is a win-win situation. This pleased the parents who wanted the kid to become a doctor and for this individual to become an investigator.
Jeremy was sometimes called in court to report the medical findings before a judge and jury and most of these were slam-dunk cases. This meant the suspect in custody was arrested and sentenced for a crime that was committed.
This also gave Jeremy a lot of publicity since sensational cases meant appearing on talk shows to give some details on the case. This person also appeared in forensic files, which featured how a true to life murder case was solved.
The training given as medical examiner made Jeremy meet a lot of people in law enforcement and those who work as private investigators. No matter who asked for assistance, the guidelines were clear. These were simply to conduct an examination on the body and present the findings.
Being a private investigator is not always following someone around. This is because there are other people who do other things that make a case stick.
The person can be a certified accountant or a computer expert. Though the training is different, this is one of the many things that a private investigating agency needs in fulfilling the requirements needed by a client.

Losing your job can be devastating. You have to deal with loss of income, colleagues, perks (e.g. a company car) plus wondering how you will manage when will you get another job, how will you cope financially etc. There is also the underlying feeling of rejection rejection from the job you have lost, plus more rejection each time you dont get a job you have applied for.
The hardest part of job search is keeping up a positive attitude, and its imperative you do this!
The whole process of job search can make people feel depressed so you need to take good care of yourself. If you do become run down it can affect you mentally, physically, and socially. It can show itself in both body language and tone of voice. This will greatly reduce the likelihood of a successful interview.
Here are 8 key ways to stay positive during job search:
1. Look after your physical self Make sure you take good care of yourself physically. It is very easy to slip into unhealthy eating, drinking or smoking habits during a period of unemployment or stress. Take time for regular exercise which accelerates the pulse beat, simple, daily, relaxation exercises, healthy eating and drinking habits. They will benefit your whole person, reducing stress, enabling you to work more calmly and efficiently, and to perform better at interview.
2. Look after your mental health If you are not in work or if you have to do quite low level temporary work, look for ways to stimulate your intellect. You can catch up on your professional reading, write an article or learn a new skill. Could you update your technological skills?
3. Stay in contact with people Make sure you remain in contact with people. Just because you no longer work with your former colleagues you can still meet people. Perhaps others in a similar position or people who will let you know about possible future changes in the companies you want to work with.
4. Understand about rejection If you do get rejected, remember that rejection is just a short term set back. You are only being rejected for one job, not for every future possibility. We need to pick ourselves up and apply for the next job. Accept that rejection is part of the job search process. With every job advertisement, there is one winner and many people who receive the regret letter. Perhaps you were a very close second but someone elses experience was a closer match. We need to treat it more like an audition.
There are also reasons outside your control that may be the reason you are not getting short-listed
Some recruitment agencies will place ads to get people on their books;
The job is already filled but the company policy is such that they have to go through the motions of an advert;
Organisational changes may mean there is no longer a need for the job to be filled;
Other candidates more closely match the employers requirements.
5. Focus on the progress you are making It is highly unlikely you will be offered the first job you go for, and we improve with each application and interview. Each time you go for an interview you are likely to improve in the way you come across and the belief in yourself.
6. Seek and use feedback Find out why you didnt get the job. It is not always offered, but generally if you ask, the company will explain in what area you didnt meet the criteria. Getting feedback isnt enough. You also want to treat it as a learning opportunity and put your new found information into practice.
7. Keep busy You will want to spend at least 10 hours a week on job search, but fill your day with other activities as well. Perhaps you could take some time to do what you have never had the time to do when working full time, such as collecting your children from school, learning a new skill, becoming a volunteer.
8. Talk it through Discuss how you are feeling with a friend or job search coach. An outside perspective can help you to reassess your self and move forward.

A few interesting facts about Bulgaria
Until 1989 the country was known as the Peoples Republic of Bulgaria (PRB) and was ruled by the Bulgarian Communist Party (BCP). By the time the impact of Mikhail Gorbachevs reform program in the Soviet Union was felt in Bulgaria in the late 1980s, the Communists, like their leader, had grown too feeble to resist the demand for change for long and they moved towards democracy.
Unemployment remained high and when Bulgaria was given a chance to join the EU after leaving Communisim behind, it jumped at it as it means greater access to markets. Bulgarians associate their dreams of European citizenship with the salaries of the Germans, the houses of the French and the holidays of the Scandinavians. Before joining the EU Bulgaria has had to tackle lots of economic and social problems including high crime rates.
A few interesting facts about Romania
Romania is the largest country in Southeastern Europe and borders many countries including Hungary and Serbia. In 1940 during World War II, Romania was occupied by the Soviet Union, Hungary and Bulgaria respectively. Romania was then proclaimed a republic, and remained under direct military and economic control of the USSR until the late 1950s.
Following the end of the Cold War in 1989, Romania developed closer ties with Western Europe, the country quickly applied for membership in the EU in June 1993 and became a member of NATO in 2004.
From 2000 onwards, the Romanian economy was transformed into one of relative macroeconomic stability, characterised by high growth and low unemployment. Almost half of Romanias population is still rural.
What about these workers that are coming to the UK and other European countries?
The European Commission says that the two countries rapid growth and highly motivated workforce will be an asset for the EU economy but is there a need for these workers? Since the EU enlarged in 2004, over half a million workers have joined the UK economy with the Poles forming the largest group with over 450,000.
For all those that come to the UK, pulling up roots from their homeland can be traumatic. It truly is not an easy decision to make, and a number of those who leave their native country choose to return, finding that adjusting to a new society is too difficult or that work is not readily available. Many EU nationals come to the UK not speaking English and with very little money in their pockets. When they failed to find employment within a few days due to the availability of jobs and language requirements, many EU nationals have found themselves destitute and even homeless. This has been a problem especially in London.
The easiest transitions occur when the economic migrants can find a community made up of people from their native country. They can keep a lot of their old customs while integrating the new countries language, values and culture. Experience seems to indicate that to be happy they need to wholeheartedly try to assimilate the new way of life. Many parts of Scotland are welcoming Polish immigrants as the population is falling and these migrants are needed to fill gaps in the workforce. Local churches are also happy as the religious Poles are filling the church pews once again. Many Poles like it in Scotland as they say that the climate and terrain is similar to home wet and full of hills!
Some plan to remain in the UK temporarily and send the money back to their family in their country, others wish to remain permanently and strive to own a home of their own. They learn the new language and educate their children in the new ways.
Migrants have made enormous contributions to the UK economy and cultures of their new countries, yet these are often made with tremendous difficulty. In 2001 it was calculated that migrants contributed 2.5 billion in taxes to the UK economy.
