Once you graduate college, its time to enter the work force (unless of course you plan to go directly to grad school). When you transition from university life to the real world, their will be a period of adjustment. You will have to find new ways to challenge yourself outside of the comfortable classroom structure. You will most likely have to relocate and secure new housing arrangements. Youll also have to go out and get a job.
Here are five tips to help you excel in your interview, and score the job you want.
1. Make and maintain eye contact
From the moment the interview starts, make eye contact. Look directly your interviewers eyes. Look at it like a staring contest that you cant lose. No mater what goes down in the interview, your gaze will remain steadfast and self-assured. Read the eyes of the person whos interviewing you, so that you can gauge the overall atmosphere and respond to questions accordingly.
2. Speak clearly, confidently and in a reasonable volume
Before you speak, clear your throat. Organize your thoughts before you open your mouth. Be confident in your responses. Speak with poise, but keep your voices volume reasonable. Too quiet, you can sound too timid. Too loud, and you sound distracting. Just speak in a reasonable tone and answer every question completely.
3. Ask questions
Job interviews are supposed to be exchanges. You have to interact with your interviewer. Ask for clarification every now and then. Show that you understand the information thats being presented to you. Ask for more details. You are shopping around just as much as your interviewer. Play hard to get within reason.
4. Find a way to make a connection
Look for common ground. Make a comment about something and build from it. Pick up on details of interest, and refer back to them. Express understanding. Do whatever it takes to leave a good impression. You want to make your interviewer remember who you are, and how easy you were to get along with.
5. Stay positive
Dont talk smack about anything. Did you absolutely hate your old boss? Well keep that little tidbit of info to yourself. Stay positive and optimistic and all times. You want to leave a lasting impression, but you also want to be certain that the imprint is positive.
Balance the need to promote your abilities with the realization that you have to be humble. Appear willing to help, but make it known that you are a strong-willed individual. Just be yourself. Make eye contact, speak clearly, ask questions, make a connection and always stay positive. Channel your confidence and if something doesnt feel right to you, then dont take the job. Always trust your instincts.

Private investigators have come a long way of establishing themselves as respectable professionals with the kind of hazardous work that they do. It is fairly often that private investigators work irregular hours because a certain job may need some surveillance work done or try to contact people who are not available during the day. For most private investigators, early morning, weekend and even holiday work is just a common occurrence.
Private investigators spend most of their time away from their offices conducting interviews or doing surveillance, but there are some cases where some may need to work in their office most of the day conducting important computer searches, checking paper trails and making a lot of phone calls.
Senior private investigators who have their own agencies and employ other investigators are the ones who work primarily in an office and follow normal working hours just like the rest of the population.
The private investigator can work in an exciting mix of environments. When working on a case away from the office, the environment might range from meetings in plush boardrooms to doing some work inside seedy bars. There are also store and hotel detectives who primarily work in the businesses that they are tasked to protect. But most private investigators generally work alone. They can sometimes work with fellow investigators during surveillance work or when following an individual in order to avoid accidental recognition by the subject.
Sometimes the work of a private investigator involves dangerous confrontation with a subject that they are following or investigating. This can make their job very stressful and dangerous. Some situations may call for the private investigator to carry firearms such going on bodyguard assignments for important corporate or celebrity clients. In order to do this, private investigators must be licensed to carry one by the appropriate authority. In most cases where the main purpose of the work is gathering information and not law enforcement or criminal apprehension, a weapon may not be necessary.
Generally speaking, a private investigator is hired to obtain information with regards to a subject’s identity, habits, conduct, movements, whereabouts, reputation or character. A private investigator may also perform investigations on the credibility of witnesses. They may also be asked to help out in trying to discover the whereabouts of missing persons or recovery of lost or stolen property. New York has a number of credible and outstanding private investigators to help you out. It is all up to you on looking for the right one who can meet your needs.

Yul Kwon, the winner of the 13th season of Survivor, is quite accomplished. He’s a graduate of UC Berkeley, Stanford, and Yale Law School. He’s worked as a law clerk to a federal judge and as a legislative aide to Senator Joe Lieberman. Most recently he’s worked as an independent business consultant and a business strategist at Google. Quite a resume for a 31 year old!
And yet, according to his friends, he’s still searching for his true calling…a way to make a difference.
Since filming ended he’s been taking time off to connect with friends and explore his interests. Although this may provide him with clues to his true calling, a random exploration of possibilities may not lead him to his dream career.
Just as Yul used strategy to win Survivor, there’s a strategy he can use to discover his true calling. You can also use these seven strategies to identify your future career.
Strategy #1: Make sure you are striving for the right goal.
When most people decide to find their dream career, they think their primary goal is to narrow the field of ideas as soon as possible. Ironically, this strategy dooms their quest to failure because they rush from one idea to the next poking holes in each one! At some point during the process they give up because they don’t seem to be making any progress at all.
Instead, focus your attention on creating a long list of potential career ideas based on your passions and interests.
Strategy #2: Focus on the skills and interests that make you feel the way you want to feel: happy, fulfilled, challenged, etc.
Although it makes practical sense at this point to focus on your most marketable skills and experience, I don’t find this strategy to be very effective. As soon as you focus on practical options you cut your creativity in half and you decrease your chances of identifying your ultimate dream career.
To create the list of potential career ideas mentioned in Strategy #1, you must start by creating a list of at least forty skills and interests. Don’t worry about how they are all going to fit together. Don’t worry about how you’ll make money with them. Just focus on the heart of the matter–the skills and topics you enjoy.
Finding a dream career is like going on a treasure hunt. It’s only after you have all the clues in front of you (your list of favorite skills and interests) that you can find the right way to put the pieces together to solve the puzzle. (Did you ever see a Survivor Immunity Challenge or Reward where the contestants tried to solve the puzzle with just one clue? No, they always collect all the pieces they need first and then they solve the puzzle at hand.)
Strategy #3: Brainstorm careers that blend your passions and interests.
One of the common strategies that can kill a quest for a dream career happens when people think they have to select one of their skills or interest to focus on. This decision, and the commitment it implies, paralyzes them because they can’t figure out which of their many interest to leave behind.
Most dream careers are a combination of the person’s unique skills and interests. If you force yourself to choose between a couple of strong interests, you are likely to loss track of the out of the box combinations that makes you unique and marketable.
The other common strategy that backfires is using logic, and logic alone, to find your dream career. If you don’t like what you are doing now, it’s highly unlikely that a logical extension of your current career is going to be your answer.
This is where brainstorming comes in. Brainstorming is a process that steps out of the box to record any and all ideas that come to mind. In this case, your goal is to randomly select 3 or 4 words from your list of favorite skills and interests to see what careers, jobs, projects, businesses, or tasks you can think of that combine as many of the words as possible.
For example: If you selected graphic design, writing, organization, and teaching from your list, you might brainstorm the following career ideas: teacher, web designer, creating a publication, teaching writing, teaching web design, developing written materials to teach a topic.
Don’t limit yourself. Don’t think about the money. Don’t think about training you’ll need. You don’t even need to want to do the ideas you come up with. For now, just generate up to 10 ideas for each combination of four words. Keep going until you get a total of 40-50 career ideas. Sometimes the best ideas come when you have to push your mind to think in a new direction, so when you feel stuck, stick with it to see what you can discover.
Strategy #4: Pinpoint your top two or three career ideas.
After you have created a pool of viable ideas to work with, you can safely narrow your focus to your top two or three career ideas. Begin by reviewing your list and pulling out the ten ideas you like most. Then start to look for your top two or three ideas. Do you see any themes, trends, overlap? It may be that your favorite ideas are a combination of a few of your original ideas. That’s fine. You just want to make sure your top two or three ideas are indeed your favorite contenders at this point in time.
Strategy #5: Verify your ideas will work for you.
The riskiest action at this point is to jump into action with one of your ideas …without verifying that it will work for you.
Before you initiate your job search or start your own business, invest the time to confirm that your ideas are in fact a good fit for you and your life. Do some online research, talk to people in the jobs, connect with others in the profession. This due diligence at the front end means that you are comfortable with your career ideas before you start trying to implement your plans.
In many cases this investigation will also open up possibilities you didn’t even know existed. Keep a record of the websites you visit and the people you talk to so you can come back later to review everything and synthesize what you’ve learned.
If your ideal career idea seems like too big a leap at the moment, look for possible stepping stone jobs or opportunities to help you prepare for your ultimate dream career.
Strategy #6: Take the first action in front of you.
Don’t expect to have 100% clarity about your future at this point. If you wait for that moment before you make a move, you’ll have a long wait.
Each step you take in the direction of your goal will open up new connections, possibilities, and opportunities. Take the steps one by one and let your career unfold as you go. Talk to a contact, go to a professional meeting, take a class, accept a volunteer assignment that helps you build key skills. Keep your vision of what you want in your mind and let the pieces fall into place as you start walking in that direction.
Strategy #7: Realize that dream careers evolve.
It is highly unlikely you will land your dream career and stay there for the rest of your life. Our economy is such that most people will have 8-12 careers in their lifetime…not jobs, but careers.
Your career is not a static event, it is an evolving one. Keep your eyes and ears open to changes in your industry, changes in your life, and changes in who you are. Just as a kaleidoscope changes as you rotate the viewer, your career is likely to change form and continue to evolve as you grow and your life changes.
Don’t be afraid of the fluid nature of your dream career. By always staying in touch with your needs and dreams you can continue to move your career in the direction that will be most meaningful to you.
Understanding these seven strategies for finding your true calling can give you the edge you need to succeed. Don’t try to investigate every possible career idea; focus instead on the career ideas that reflect your favorite skills and interests. In investigating these ideas other opportunities may come into view.
Searching for your true calling is a journey and an adventure similar to Survivor. Just as Yul and all the players needed strategy, passion, perseverance, and patience to succeed, you will do well to incorporate these elements into your quest for your dream career.
Good luck on your journey of discovery.

It’s the question you dreamed about when you were ten years old. It’s the question your parents nagged you about during high school. It’s the question that stresses most of us out more and more the older we get. “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
After living on a college campus for three semesters now, I’m realizing that most people have some really screwed up ways of figuring out the answer to that question. I have friends who are studying political science but hate politics, nursing majors who hate biology, and accounting majors who hate math. Obviously, a lot of people are confused about what exactly it is that they want to spend their life doing. Think about it. If your job lasts from 9-5 each day, you’re going to end up spending over 50% of your awake life at work. Personally, I think it’s important that we spend that 50% wisely. But how can you make sure that you do? Here are some cool tips for how to decide what you really want to be when you grow up.
Relax and Keep an Open Mind
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to “choose a career” and stick with it for the rest of your life. The president of my university is a successful CEO, author, and entrepreneur. His major in college? Abstract mathematics. The point is, you never have to sign a contract that says, “I agree to force myself to do this for the rest of my life”. It’s your life. You’re free to do whatever you want and the possibilities are endless. So relax, dream big, and keep an open mind.
Notice Your Passions
Imagine with me that you have an extraordinarily wealthy uncle who dies and leaves you a $10 Million inheritance. Think about it: Now that money is no longer an issue to you, what would you spend all of your time doing? Don’t kid yourself by saying “I’d watch movies and sleep all the time.” You and I both know that you’d get bored of that eventually. Every one of us is born with an innate desire to do something purposeful with our lives. We long to do something that we’re passionate about; something that will make a meaningful impact on the world. Seriously…what would you do all day? Grab a piece of paper and a pen. Got it? Now, simply write down a list of 3 activities that you love doing…no matter how simple or useless the activities may sound.
Figure Out How to Use Your Passions for a Larger Purpose
Now that you’ve got those 3 activities written down, pick your favorite one and think about it for a moment. How could you do that activity in a way that helps others and makes a positive impact on the world? For example, let’s say that you love exercising or lifting weights. You notice that this is one of your passions, so you decide to become a personal trainer. Why not make it interesting and set a goal to eventually become a personal trainer to celebrity athletes? Why not add value to the world by starting a cool fitness camp for teens? Why not write a book that helps parents raise fitness-minded children? Making a positive impact on the world will not only ensure that you are successful financially, it will also make you feel wonderful. It’s a proven principle: The more you give to the world, the more the world will give you in return.
Figure Out How You Can Benefit
Once you’ve figured out what your passions are and how you can use those passions to add value to the world, it’s time to take the last step: figure out how you can make great money doing it. My most important piece of advice about this last step is to remember just that: it’s the last part of the decision process. I feel sorry for people who choose an occupation based on the average income for that field. No amount of money can compensate for a life wasted at a job that makes you miserable. However, that’s not to say that the money isn’t important. Money is important, and I’m a firm believer in the concept that no matter what it is that you love doing, there’s at least one way to make extraordinary money doing it. So be creative! I recently read in the Wall Street Journal about a teenager who used his passion for video games to start a video game tutoring service. He now has a fast-growing business with several employees and earns an impressive income by helping av id gamers increase their skills in Halo 2 and other popular multi-player games. Nothing is limiting you besides your own imagination.
OK, now pick up that piece of paper again. Below the activity you wrote down a moment ago, write down at least three ways you can set yourself up to receive the benefits of your actions. In other words, write down three ways you could make great money by doing what you love. Save that piece of paper, because what you’ve written on that piece of paper are quite possibly the best career options for you. Hopefully these tips are helping you gain a clearer understanding of what you want to do with your life. Simply discover your passions, figure out how to use your passions to make an impact on the world, and then figure out how you can make great money doing it. In the words of Albert Schweitzer:
“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.”

In the United States, there is a very high demand for nurses because the country’s population is aging, especially the baby boomers. This means that more health care professionals are needed to care for these people. The career prospects for nurses in the country continue to look bright for the future. As a result, it can be expected that more people would pick nursing as a career option. However, people who wish to do so should be aware of the responsibilities of nurses so they can prepare themselves.
General job description
The general job description of almost all nurses involves performing some basic duties including treating patients, educating people on various medical conditions, and providing emotional support and advice to patients and their families. In addition to this, nurses also record the medical histories of patients and their symptoms. Furthermore, nurses help in performing and analyzing the results of diagnostic tests. They also help in the rehabilitation of the patient.
Apart from what has been mentioned, registered nurses are also responsible for teaching patients and their families how to manage the illness, which may include teaching them about post-treatment home care. In addition to this, some nurses also provide grief counseling for families who may have a critically ill relative. Furthermore, nurses take the lead role in undertaking health screening, immunizations, blood drives and public health seminars.
Specialization
Registered nurses may opt to specialize in one field. The different types of specialization available to nurses are divided into four categories: specialization based on the work setting or type of treatment, specialization on certain diseases or conditions, specialization on a specific organ system, and specialization on a specific population. In some cases, nurses combine two or more of these specialization types. The duties and responsibilities for each vary depending on the area of specialization. One example of this is that a nurse who has specialized based on a work setting, like ambulatory care, would require a nurse to treat patients on an outpatient basis.
The career prospects for nurses, especially in countries with aging populations, can be expected to remain bright. As a result, it can also be expected that a lot of people would want to pick nursing as a career option. However, knowledge about the responsibilities that aspiring nurses can expect to have when they become nurses is an essential piece of information that could help them prepare for a demanding career.

Have you ever been in a bad relationship? You aren’t happy. Your partner doesn’t respect you. You can’t do what you want for fear you’ll be criticized. You feel stifled and stuck.
You dream of moving on, but you really don’t want to leave because there’s some comfort in the fact that you are familiar with your situation. Even if it’s neither ideal nor pleasant, at least it’s something!
It’s likely you are having an ongoing conversation with yourself about whether you should stay or go. Some day’s you are 100% stay….other days you are100% go. But more often than not you find yourself vacillating from one answer to the other several times during the course of your day.
Because leaving a relationship takes so much effort and determination, you may spend a lot of time convincing yourself to stay. Perhaps you are saying:
“It’s not that bad.”
“I think things will change.”
“So and so looks like they are changing…I’ll hold on a bit longer to see what happens.”
“I just need to try harder and everything will improve.”
“I won’t be able to find anything better.”
“I should be happy with what I have.”
“Who do I think I am? There are many people in the world who are in a situation that’s not ideal. I need to just deal with it.”
All of these statements are signs that you are settling for something that’s really not working for you. You have resigned yourself to the fact that you can’t be happy. You have lost touch with the fact that you have the ability to create a life that really works for you.
How Does This Relate to Careers, You Ask
With just a few word changes, everything in the previous paragraphs applies to people who are in jobs or careers that don’t work for them.
Generally people who are frustrated with their work feel that they can’t be themselves at work. They may not feel respected by individuals in the company or the company itself. They worry about what they can do and what they shouldn’t do.
It’s often difficult for people in bad relationships and bad jobs to come to terms with the fact that they are in a situation that’s not working for them. They do whatever they can to convince themselves that the difficulties are temporary and will turn around in the near future. In fact, they often search their surroundings for any small sign to prove this is true.
Unfortunately, one sign that a partner or a work situation is improving isn’t enough to turn the entire situation around. Just because your boss acknowledges you or provides you with the resources you need to do your job, doesn’t mean the job is suddenly a good fit for you. Just because your company adds a new benefit that gives you a bit more flexibility or provides you with better health insurance, doesn’t mean the job is working for you.
For a job or career to work for you, it needs to meet four key characteristics.
1) You need to be able to be fully yourself at work.
2) The job needs to support you in living the life you want.
3) The work environment needs to support you in being both productive and satisfied.
4) The work you do must tap your passions and interests.
If your workplace forces you to be someone you aren’t, if your personal life is squeezed out by your work life, if your work environment limits you, or if the work itself is boring or unbearably stressful, your job is NOT working for you.
Now What Do You Do?
As soon as you can acknowledge that your job isn’t a good fit for you, it’s time to explore your options. This is a tricky time because it’s so easy to be swept back into believing you should stick it out, work harder, or settle for what’s going on at work. Don’t let your guard down! You deserve to have a job that works for you personally and professionally.
Even if you can’t make a change immediately, begin focusing your time and attention on what’s DOES work for you. This is the first, critical step in creating a career that works for you. You must gather as many clues as you can about who you are, how you want to live, and what you love to do. To do this, ask yourself these questions:
What are you drawn to?
What topics interest you?
What skills do you like to use in your work?
What lifestyle do you want to have?
What work environment supports you and your life?
What is your innate personal style?
As you begin answering these questions, don’t worry about how you are going to tie all this information together. Just gather as many clues as you can. Start by recording the information you collect. Then when you have at least forty items listed, begin looking for themes and patterns in list. What have you learned about yourself and how can you leverage that information into a great career.
Although this process may take some time, don’t get discouraged. The time you spend discovering and understanding yourself and your needs will allow you to make good, solid decisions as you step into your future. You’ll not only be able to evaluate new job possibilities (and even new relationships) with more confidence and clarity, you’ll be able to use this new sense of yourself to keep yourself out of unworkable jobs and relationships in the future.

John is a certified public accountant from Trenton, New Jersey. This person this job to be a noble profession. This is because the expertise will make sure the books of the clients and those who live in the neighborhood are done right.
A few weeks ago, a close friend was scammed of a lot of money. Someone called and claimed to be a representative of the IRS and wanted to award the person with a lot of cash after the name was drawn in a sweepstakes raffle.
Digging deeper, John found out that there were a lot of these incidents and it was not only confined in New Jersey. Feeling sorry for the friend, Richard conducted an investigation starting from the bogus website.
With some help from other colleagues in college who specialized in computers, the group was able to find the suspect who has been doing this which led to that persons arrest. Knowing that much of money will never be recovered, everyone else was happy that this wouldnt happen again.
This experience gave John something new to do in life. Since there were hackers and other fraudulent people doing this to others, this individual decided to make a private investigator agency.
Having served in the army in Desert storm, it was easy to pass the course provided by a reputable school that will be another step forward in getting the license. After a few months, John was able to get everything needed to start the practice from the local office and the business was born.
There are a lot of private investigator agencies in New Jersey. Since John did not want to compete with the others, it was best to specialize only as a financial security service. This meant banks, lending institutions and insurance companies were going to be the only clients.
When a customer files a claim, it is up to John and the team to do a background check. This includes looking into the persons employment history, credit rating, number of accounts held in different back, deposits and withdrawals.
Most of the investigation was done using a computer. If the person passes the security check, only then will the clients loan or insurance claim be processed.
The honest business as a certified public accountant made the business perform well in the first year of operation. This enabled John to expand the private investigator business in three other towns all over New Jersey.

1: Know why you are leaving
Have you outgrown your job, decided you want to specialise in a new area or have you had a fall out with a colleague or feel miffed because you have been passed over for promotion. It can help to talk through the reasons for this with an objective outsider to make sure the same things don’t go wrong again.
2: Don’t quit on a whim
Think it through. Make sure you find out everything you can about the new company and location. The grass is not always greener, and once you have gone it’s unlikely you will be able to go back. People can then feel worse when the new job doesnt live up to their unrealistic expectations.
3: Don’t resign without a job to go to
Many people resign with no job to go to as they feel unfulfilled and think that this will change with a new job. It may, but it is much harder to get a job when you are not working, and companies may view you suspiciously and think you could also resign on a whim from them.
4: Think about what you do want
Go beyond the job to think about your ideal work and personal environment, and how much money you need for your chosen life style. Some professionals will take on a low level job thinking they will be happier without the pressure of the previous job. However, not enough job responsibility, or working in a menial role with little autonomy creates a different type of stress.
5: Don’t threaten to leave unless you mean it.
You may be offered more money, or the offer of a company car, but you may just be wished well for the future.
6: Don’t assume.
Don’t assume you will easily get a job in a new area. The situation may be more difficult, there could already be a glut of accountants, marketing managers etc in the new city, and employers hate people who have just quit a job. They think you could do the same with them.
7: Get the job offer in writing
Too many people act on the strength of a conversation and the paperwork never comes through. Wait till you get a contract.
8: Know your financial situation
Have you worked out how much you need to live on? If you are not going to another job, will you have enough money to survive for maybe 6 months?
9: Stop! before you decide to move to the beach or the country
The area may not be the same in winter as when you are on holiday. Take a holiday in the off season; see what you think of it then. If, e.g., you have decided to be a surfing instructor in Cornwall, find out what sort of work is available in the winter.
10: Could you have a sabbatical?
The number of companies offering unpaid leave is growing. Could you take 3 months off to try out a new life style/ career? After a few months you may realise that the old job has a lot of positive aspects.
