A career as a paralegal is an excellent choice. Young people graduating from high school and college should consider becoming a paralegal, legal assistant or legal secretary. There are many reasons to explore legal careers.
Some people use their office staff positions as springboards to become attorneys. They can work during the day and take classes in the evening. While they are working in their springboard positions, they learn on-the-job. They might admit this arrangement, though tough at times, gives them an advantage in law school courses.
A paralegal career certainly does not have to be a springboard to be successful and fulfilling. Legal assistants can enjoy their careers in the long-term. These are solid careers with as much learning and opportunity for advancement as the candidates opt to create for themselves. Some people enjoy their careers in a particular area of law so much they stick with it, be it the very same position or the same type of position. Others take the opportunity to work in different areas. Either way, these careers are filled with learning and new experiences.
Working in a law firm is prestigious. Law firms are comprised of white-collar workers who dress to fit the part, from the managing attorney to the partners, associates, paralegals, legal secretaries, receptionists and clerks. Those hired are very intelligent, or they would not have even made it through the door. This creates refreshingly crisp office communication from friendly jokes and camaraderie during breaks, to stimulating work discussions.
People working in the legal field are particularly aware of political issues and upcoming changes in the law. After all, it affects how they accomplish their jobs. As a paralegal, youre in the know and often reminded of the very principles upon which this nation was built.
Consider the job structure of such a career. More often than not, a paralegal position in a legal department comprises regular work hours. The benefits offered in these positions are competitive in order to hire good employees. Those benefits include vacation and sick time, 401K, and available group health insurance. Lunch breaks are usually one hour. Most law firms or companies with legal departments are situated in downtown hubs that provide variety for dining and shopping. Parking fees are usually paid by the employer.
Many retail store workers get an employee discount when they purchase items sold by their employer. Car salesmen receive bonuses for top sales. In most any type of work position, there are specific perks. As a paralegal, typically one perk is free legal advice.
A legal assistant has access to a wealth of legal information in person and through available written and computerized materials. She can easily prepare her own Will, Living Will and General Power of Attorney. A paralegal might prepare her own real estate documents; this saves money at closing. Family law information and forms are available for divorces, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, and adoption.
The ability to prepare ones own formal paperwork and to discuss strategy regarding personal situations with attorneys, free of charge, is a major benefit. Larger law firms may have a cap on how many hours of free legal advice an employee may request in a year, and smaller ones may have no cap. Free legal advice is a particularly helpful work benefit for our many life chapters. It could actually save hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
These are just a few of the reasons to choose a career as a paralegal. The U.S. Department of Labor reports that paralegal positions are on the rise. This is the perfect time to embark on your career course as a paralegal, legal assistant, or legal secretary. Would you like to learn more, and earn more?

Getting selected in a job interview is only half the job done; the other half is salary negotiation. When negotiating a salary, timing is important. Asking the salary amount right in the first instance would be imprudent. It is important to get the job offer or reach the final interview first before negotiating the salary. This article gives some tips on salary negotiation, helping you in negotiating your salary with a prospective employer.
There are many different situations that one would face regarding the salary that he or she is offered depending on the type of job and the type of organization. In some jobs there may not be any room for negotiations, you simply have to accept or reject what is offered. If you dont like what is offered, you have to look for another job.
Looking from an employers perspective, if you have fixed X amount as the salary for a particular job and if somebody is willing to work for X-Y amount, you would have saved Y amount for the company. Hence you may initially offer X-Y amount to see if the prospective employee accepts it and give yourself room for negotiation if required. Remembering this strategy, when the employer asks your last pay drawn, you must disclose the true amount and also explain why you are worth more like you were responsible for increase in sales by Z% or you have saved Z amount for the company and so on.
If in an interview you are offered X amount as salary and asked for your opinion, there are some options for you:
1) You can remain silent in which case the employer may think that you feel it is too low and might raise the offer
2) Explain to them the last salary that you were drawing and that you expect a raise by Y amount and the reasons for the same. The Y amount should be a few thousand dollars more than what you are willing to settle; this would give you room to negotiate in case the employer wants to bring it down
3) Accept the offer on the condition you expect the salary to be revised after a few months on the basis of your performance. This offer is most likely to be accepted by the employer but you are taking a risk in that you should demonstrate tangible benefits to the employer within the agreed time.
Depending on the position you may also ask for a share of the profit or benefit that has accrued to the company because of your efforts. Like if you are in sales department, a share of the X% increase in sales that you have brought to the company or if it is production department, a share of the X amount of saving because of your efforts etc.
Whatever be the case, it is important to negotiate your salary at the time of interview or later in order to get what you are worth.

We, as Australians, love our lifestyle. Consider the Sunday Barbie, the footy, and our great religion- Backyard Cricket- a ritual in every childs life which continues into our adult life- if youre one of the lucky ones who has time- right?
Unfortunately, the reality is that we no longer have the time to enjoy these lifestyle greats anymore. Just ask your neighbour, or have a look at the pile of cars lined up outside a train station, or the people on the buses in peak hour- do they get to enjoy these things every day? Id say probably not.
Network Marketing is about lifestyle. Its about getting back to the way we were- enjoying our neighbors (if you actually know who they are and if youve had the time to meet them), being with family (many of us have moved away from family to make a big buck in the capital cities), and camping or holidaying with our kids.
We are experiencing our next baby boom- prompted by the government in the face of rising costs to have children. Women everywhere are starting families and they now want to be at home to raise their kids. Unfortunately, our current situation says that many women dont get that luxury and need to go back to work to support their beautiful families. Many people talk about how much childcare costs- well, it wouldnt cost so much if we all didnt need it so bad! But, once again, thats our reality. We need to work and many of us are juggling parenthood with lifestyle. Network marketing is about letting our mums stay at home and raise their precious children and still support their family.
Professionals are leaving home in the dark in the morning and not arriving until its dark at night. Such is our lifestyle that our bosses are working us into the ground whilst they enjoy amazing lifestyles. Why are we being so silly supporting their great holidays, when we can barely afford to take our own?? Do you think that they will promote you to manager stance in the next 12 months? Again, Id say probably not. Network Marketing is about being our own boss and enjoying our own holidays. Its about working from home and getting up whatever time you like!
Some say housing prices are coming down, others say they are still going up- depends on where you choose to live. Our interest rates are still increasing, forcing many out of their homes. Those that have to leave their homes and downsize are those who are already working long hours, taking part time jobs on the weekend to support their wonderful homes. Network marketing is about choosing where you want to live- no matter how much it costs.
Network Marketing is about Lifestyle. Many people believe its about making a quick buck, scamming others to spend their hard earned money, or just a ridiculous way of making money. Its not- its about lifestyle. Its about letting mums stay at home with their kids, its about getting out of bed when you want, and being your own boss, its about choosing to live where you want and to enjoy the lifestyle you want.
So, next time, as you think that you cant afford something, or you cant take the kids camping as you have to do some overtime, or you dont get to see your house in daylight, remember what you have read and ensure you do some research into the wonderful lifestyle of Network Marketing.
You can change your life only if you want to..
Emma Rhoades runs her own successful network marketing business from home. For over 2 years now, she has been helping others to succeed in network marketing and enjoying the chance to stay at home with their kids. You should look for hotel job opportunities if you are interested in working in the hospitality industry. You can easily find something in your area because there are hotels everywhere. You can do many different jobs in a hotel, and you have to be flexible to do them effectively. Hotels need workers at all hours and on all days of the week because they never close. If you are lucky enough, you can secure a daytime position, even if you havent worked at a hotel for a long time.
There are hotel job opportunities that match your skills and capabilities. For example, you can work at the front desk if you dont mind standing for long periods of time. You may also find daytime positions as a member of the cleaning staff that cleans the rooms, if that is what you are looking for. You should remember there is one thing that every hotel wants in an employee if you want to pursue hotel job opportunities. You must be good at dealing with all sorts of people if you want to work in a hotel. You will not be suited for a job in a hotel if you get upset easily, and dont like to smile a lot. You have to be friendly when you want hotel job opportunities because hotels do their best to keep every single customer happy. You arent going to be someone they want to take a chance on if you dont have these qualities.
You can also try your luck online, or you can look in your local classifieds if you are looking for hotel job opportunities. You should visit the hotels in your area and fill out applications if you cant find hotel job opportunities online or in local ads. The hotels in your area may not be hiring that week, but they may need people very soon.
You have to do some follow up when you apply for hotel job opportunities so that you will be first person they will call when something does open up. It really does pay to keep in touch when you are interested in any job. However, you should avoid calling too much because you may drive them insane.

Do either of these two descriptions sound like you?
You are a solo entrepreneur working around the clock. You’re tired and quickly becoming burned out. You seem to spend an awful lot of time booking and rebooking appointments with clients, doing paper work and chasing up on unpaid bills - Why is it then that at the end of the month you just don’t seem to have made very much money hire someone? - You have got to be kidding, you’re hardly earning enough to support yourself.
You are a hard working team leader, you average 12 - 14 hours a day. Everyone can see you are a great leader, you are the first to arrive and the last to leave. Frankly if you weren’t around the whole department would fall apart. You have your finger on the pulse of everything and I mean everything - so why do you feel so out of control.
I am writing this article because I am known as the Queen of Delegation and I’d like to share a few simple tips which could very well change your life.
A friend called me while I was working on my book last year, how are you she asked “well I’m really busy I answered. My editor is working on the last four chapters. My copywriter is working on the copy for the sales page, I have a company building my new website. My graphic designer is busy designing the Cd cover of the audio version and my VA is busy organizing guest speakers to help me promote the program.”
“What are you doing” she asked?
“I’m delegating” I replied.
By the end of this conversation she actually had me feeling very lazy and I felt guilty for a while until I realized that while she was stressing out trying to do everything herself I was enjoying my work immensely. Although the project was huge, and the deadline tight, I had done my part and then trusted my team to do their part. I then made sure that everything ran smoothly by taking on the role of the coordinator.
Remember delegating does not mean abdicating.
When you delegate you farm out a task, however you are still responsible for managing it’s satisfactory and timely completion.
Coach your team. Get to know them, find out what they love to do and find out their particular skills. You must never jump in and take over the job but at the same time don’t let your team drift off and leave them to their own devices. Offer advice, ongoing training, and support. Your team will succeed when everyone in it feels like:
- they have an important role to play,
- that they are being given reasonability
- and the opportunity to grow.
So what are the rules of delegation?
1. Define the job
Is this something you should do or is it better suited to someone else in your team.
Or here is something else to consider - could the job be automated.
For instance my appointments are booked, changed or even cancelled online without my being involved. I use appointment quest which even reminds me and my client that we have an appointment.
My products are sold online from my Easy Web Automation Shopping Cart which sends an email alert to my assistant who contact the printer who then prints individual Cd’s and then fulfills the order, without my ever having to be involved.
2. Find the right person for the job
Who is the person most qualified to successfully carry out this task?
Is it something that will give them job satisfaction?
How can you package it so that it achieves this result?
3. Let them know exactly what is expected of them - preferably in writing.
Let the person you are delegating the task:
know why you are giving them the job,
what makes it important,
how it fits into the big picture
and who they will be liaising with.
Also be clear about the final result you expect and how success will be measured.
Clarify that they understand what is expected of them in an email, or if necessary with a contract.
4 What do they need to complete the task?
Meet and discuss, what they need to successfully fulfill all requirements of the job.
Materials, personal, premises etc
5 Get written timelines and deadlines.
In order to maintain good feeling, and to ensure the task doer does not feel like you are breathing down their neck or don’t trust them, agree on time lines and check-in dates and times before beginning any job.
Do you need timelines.
Agree on a deadline.
6 Support give feedback and praise
Keep everyone involved in the loop and give regular progress reports.
Feedback privately to individuals when something could have been done better or differently in a timely manner.
Support those having trouble keeping to plan, blame has no place in delegation - at the end of the day this is still your responsibility.
Remember: Please and thank you are the most important words in your dictionary and don’t forget praise for a job well done.
In Conclusion, a good leader does not work single handedly they surround themselves with a great team, then they empower that team by coordinating and highlighting their various skills.
