Using Auto Responders and Squeeze Pages

Squeeze Pages

Usually when potential business associated meet they shake hands, exchange business cards and discuss their businesses. On the internet, however, it is very different. Potential customers can view your website and all your contact information without even meeting you. This is where you may want to use a squeeze page.

When someone views your squeeze page it prompts them to leave their contact information behind. If this is not done you may end up losing a lot of profitable business relationships because you do not know the prospects name or know how to contact them. In order to develop that one on one relationship with a prospect a squeeze page is a great solution.

In order to get people to leave their information, so you can get to know them, you should offer something of interest. A free e-book is a good choice to offer as a gift for leaving their contact details. People want to know that they are getting something in return for leaving their names and email addresses.

There should not be any out going links on your squeeze page. If you do have any, they should be in smaller print at the bottom of the page. Entering contact information should be the only thing a prospect can do on your squeeze page. Putting banners, pay per clicks or pop ups on the page should be avoided. Provide enough information to peek the interest of the prospect and offer a free e-book download.

Auto Responders

Most auto responder services come with an option to design an opt in form so that makes it a lot easier to make one. Make the submit button compelling enough to get the customer to act. You can change it when designing the form.

In order to create your opt in form for your auto responder follow the directions or video tutorials provided by your auto responder service. After you have created the form add it to your website so that you can begin building a list. Some people may prefer to sign up using email. In that case have an option for them to send a blank email to a certain email address. As the saying goes, the power is in the list, so have a couple options available in order to get as many subscribers as possible.

An opt in form is a great addition for any website. You can offer a newsletter or e-course if the prospect provides their information. Set up the auto responder with information, articles and freebies to be sent out at regular intervals. As long as the prospect stays subscribed you can offer them anything you want without being accused of spam, just make sure there is an unsubscribe link at the bottom of each e-mail.

Pros and Cons of Establishing an In-House Ad Agency

There have been several ads promoting books and reports on this
subject, or included as part of the contents in several mail
order books stating:

“SAVE UP TO 17% ON ALL YOUR ADVERTISING”

It’s legitimate, practical and effective, but like so many other
promises, there are pros and cons involved. The pros are fairly
obvious. By setting up your own advertising agency and placing
your advertising under your agency name, most magazines will
allow you the standard 15% agency commission plus and extra 2%
cash discount. If your annual ad budget is $5,000 this amounts to
a saving of $850 a year, which is a considerable piece of change.

The negative side to this operation involves the initial cost of
establishing your new agency, which isn’t very difficult, but it
might be considered time-consuming. To initiate an agency you
will have to have a name for it other than your regular business
name. Example: If your company name is Nationwide Electronics and
your name is John Smith, you could call your agency John Smith
Advertising or The J.S. Advertising Agency, The agency address
will have to be different than your company’s, but this can be
resolved by renting a post office box for the ad agency and using your
home or office address for the other. Next you will have to open
a separate checking account under the agency name because all
advertising payments will be issued thru your agency, and you
will probably be required to register your agency with your
County Clerk as a new business.

Once these details have been taken care of, you’re ready to begin
placing ads. You’ll have to have insertion order forms printed
with your agency name and address, and a separate form must be
prepared for each ad in each publication. When your advertising
schedule involves only a few publications, this will not be a
problem, but if you expand into 50 to 100 different magazines, it
can really cut into your time. Of course, if business gets large
enough, you can always hire a secretary to take care of that
chore.

Do-it-yourself Pitfalls: How to Waste Money Quickly In Advertising

1. Plant negative ideas into people’s minds.

The ad headline Don’t waste another dollar plants the idea of wasting money into people’s minds. The call to action Don’t hesitate is about hesitating. To cultivate more supportive thinking, focus on the positive. Try Save money today and Call now.

2. Send a diffuse message to an overly-broad group.

The risk of an ad that addresses everybody: it appeals to nobody. Even if you offer something for everybody, address the audience so that each individual can easily discern whether you’re speaking to them.

3. Publish errors that hurt your credibility.

Inconsistent punctuation, run-on sentences, poor grammar, odd syntax, and spelling errors in the print media get noticed. Make sure that your ads are exempt from their ridicule. Proofing by a sharp-eyed outside party can be invaluable reputation protection.

4. Act like a small-timer.

Many individuals and small organizations invest too little in their ads, run unprofessional ads, or place too little faith in good ads. Some actually pay to damage their reputation through ads that do more to repel business than to attract it. So, project a tested, supportive image consistently.

5. Do it all yourself.

Often, businesspeople get exactly what they want in their ads by doing it themselves or by getting others to do it under their direction. This is the DIY approach. Often the ads fail miserably. Your customer’s perspective and an expert’s perspective can save you from this. Listen to your customers attentively and pay for advertising expertise. Otherwise, the illusion of thrift with the DIY approach might yield to the reality of high cost.

The Principle Of Advertising Online

Advertising online is very similar to advertising in any environment. You really are trying to get your message or your product out there by the most cost effective means possible.

Advertising online really is unique in the sense that you have the means to advertise anywhere in the world, almost instantly.

I have found through many years of advertising and research that it can get quite expensive and take many hours finding what works and what does not.

However, the most effective methods of advertising I believe, happen to be through search engines. Having them index you, and paying per click seem to be the most effective methods of marketing.

Advertising in ezines are also effective for short term sales but really have nowhere as much traffic as you will find in search engines which account for the majority of website traffic on the internet.

It is better to let a search engine index you rather than submitting to it, this way you will obtain higher rankings.

You must update your site and even trade traffic with other websites if possible if you want to improve your indexing chances and your ranking.

There are also directories you can look into that will possibly charge a fee to get into, but are well worth it.

What Happened? Troubleshooting Poor Response from Ad Campaigns

Too many small business owners today run ad campaigns that get little to no results, and they have no idea why. When you have the knowledge to troubleshoot the poor responses, you also have the knowledge to make the needed changes so that - next time - your sales improve! Let’s take a look at the breakdown of an ad campaign, and how to determine what went wrong.

Response vs. Results

It’s important to understand the difference between response rate and results. When a customer takes the action you want him/her to take (i.e., clicking to your site, calling your 800 number, etc.), then you’ve achieved “response.” This does NOT mean you’ve made a sale. The response rate of your ad campaign can be high without ever selling one product or service.

“Results,” on the other hand, are the sales you make in conjunction with the response rate. When a customer takes the action you want him/her to take AND buys your product/service, then you’ve achieved results.

No Response

When you get little to no response, chances are that one of two things happened. One - your ad was poorly written and didn’t generate enough interest to excite the customer to take action; or two - the ad didn’t reach your preferred target customer.

How do you determine which one is the culprit? Test! Use the same ad, but place it in a different ezine or on a different Web site. If response rate improves, you know the ad is most likely fine, but the audience exposure was off. If the response rate does not improve, it’s probably best to rewrite the headline, the ad, or both.

Response But No Results

If you run an ezine ad, banner ad, etc., and get responses without making any sales, the most probable theory is that your supporting ad copy or offer is not doing its job. Ezine ads, banner ads, and the like will never make a sale on their own. The customer is almost always going to be directed to click back to your Web site. If the copy/design of your ad is working, but no sales are being made, take a good look at the copy or design of your site. Chances are that *it* could be costing you sales.

Again, testing is the key. Change a headline, add links that direct to “more information” pages, and so on. Run the ad again, and see if your results improve.

You’ll notice that in either case, testing is the recommended course of action. So many small business owners get in a hurry and neglect to test their ads. While it may seem costly to run an ad, change an ad, and run it again - the truth is that running unproven ads all across the ‘Net without gaining any return on investment (ROI) is a huge waste of money.

Yes, it does take a good deal of time. Yes, it can cost additional money. However, once you’ve taken the time to test an ad, and the copy on the supporting Web site that customers will be directed to, you’ll be in a much better position to ensure consistent sales from your campaigns.

Five Characteristics of Highly Successful Advertising

Have you ever spent a small fortune on advertising that
generated disappointment rather than sales?

Many small business owners have been down the road of flat
advertising results and are at a loss when it comes to
developing new ideas to improve the response to their ads.

Whether you run ads in your local newspaper, your industry’s
top periodical or on-line, you need your investment in
advertising to pay for itself, and then some, in order to
justify its cost.

If your ads aren’t generating the interest you want in your
products and services they may be suffering from one of the
five common mistakes small business owners and professional
service providers make when developing and delivering their
advertising.

Here is a list of five qualities common to successful small
business advertising campaigns.

Zero in on Your Best Prospects

Many small business owners make the mistake of thinking
bigger is better when they choose a medium in which to run
their ads and opt to spend their advertising dollars to
reach a larger but less focused market.

For example, if your company specializes in helping law
firms reduce the cost of long, ongoing cases and you choose
to run a series of full page ads in the New York Times
instead of the New York Law Journal you will likely be
disappointed by the response to your campaign. Despite
reaching the considerably larger audience of the New York
Times your would be missing the focused attention of the
legal minded readership of the New York Law Journal.

Be sure to zero in on your market. You will increase the
likelihood that the readers who see your ad will actually
have a need for your service.

Set Yourself Apart from the Crowd

Unless your business sells a product or service that is
completely unique and faces no competition your ads need to
set your products or services apart from the crowd of your
competitors.

If you are the owner of a pet supply company and your ads
simply say, “We Sell Pet Supplies?they will be passed over
along with every other bland advertisement for Fido’s food.

On the other hand, your ads will stand out and attract much
more attention to your shop if you state that you sell,
“King Sized Bones and Bowls for the Royalty in Your Family.?/p>

By focusing your ads on the owners of large breed dogs you
distinguish yourself from the crowd of pet shops that simply
sell pet supplies and make it clear to the owners of large
dogs that you sell what they need.

Be sure the copy of your ads has the effect of making what
you offer unique. Your highly targeted prospects will reward
you by noticing the difference in your ads and buying from
you.

Demonstrate Value

Another property of a highly effective advertisement is that
it demonstrates the value your products and services
provide. By demonstrating value in your advertisements you
give your prospects a clear idea of the benefits you provide
and a clear reason to buy from you. Demonstrating value can
also help you set yourself apart from you competitors.

How can you change your ads to demonstrate the value you
provide? What special offers can you make to set yourself
apart from the pack?

Focus on client problems

Consumers buy products and services because they fill a need
or solve a problem. If your ad copy does not address your
prospects?problems they will never know that you provide
the solution they need.

If you are recovering from knee surgery and need to work
with a physical therapist to regain your full range of
motion, would you be more likely to choose a therapist who
advertises his new and modern equipment or the one who
advertises that she will have your knee working and feeling
like new again in just three weeks?

Be sure to focus your ads on your clients?problems. You
will win more business as more and more prospects come to
see you as the solution to their problem.

Require Action

The final aspect of a highly effective ad is a call to
action. If you’ve done your job up until this point, your
prospect has read your ad. If your ad does not finish the
job and inspire your prospect to contact you for more
information or visit your store or your web site, it is not
worth the money you spent to have it published.

Don’t assume that your prospects know what they should do
next. You need to tell them to be sure they know.

If you’ve gotten their attention, demonstrated your value
and shown them that you are the solution to their problem,
don’t waste your good work by neglecting to instruct them to
take the next step and contact you.

If all this seems like a lot to accomplish in one
advertisement, you need not worry. A well-written marketing
message will take care of most of the details of writing a
highly effective ad.

Do you have a marketing message you can use to consistently
deliver effective ads and position your business as the
solution to your client’s problems? You should.

Credibility In Advertising

I recently saw an ad taped to my mailbox, mind you, my mailbox is shared by many residents of my area. The postal real estate is typically reserved for flyers of lost dogs, cats, small children, etc. This time, however, the ad was soliciting a service which, I feel, requires a personal connection. The ad simply stated: “Affordable, Quality, Licensed, Day Care. Call XXX-XXXX?/p>

While I do not have children yet, I can only assume a responsible parent would look at this impersonal solicitation for their young children and laugh. Would you consider trusting this nameless, faceless, credit-less, organization with your children? Maybe some days this would be appealing, but realistically?

I started thinking about credibility and what an important role it plays in today’s business economy. I looked in the yellow pages for a landscaping company ?six pages vying for my dollar, yet all of them lacked personality. Not one said, “We are a credible company you have heard of.?/p>

Granted, building a brand name takes longer than a day or a dollar. Not one person on my mailing list has the Microsoft arsenal of marketers, nor do they have the brand recognition worldwide. But thousands of “small businesses?(a term I hate) have incredible local recognition. Think Blue Sky Landscaping (for you Western Washington folks), what about Dillanos Coffee? They are based right here in Sumner. Ever heard of Pink Coconut? Headquartered in Puyallup.

What do you do to make your company say, “I am someone you can trust.? How do your customers get to be your customers? Obviously word of mouth is a powerful marketing tool ?but you can’t buy that. If you could, we would all be millionaires and word of mouth would not have the same credibility. What about new customers?

For some, leaving an anonymous flyer on a mailbox will work. For daycare? For in-home services? No.

Write back and let me know what you do to bring creditability to your company. In my next article, I will share some of your thoughts ?think about it, instant (creditable, free) publicity.

Mobile Detailers; Customer Window Displays

Mobile detailers have all types of customers, many of whom are self-employed. We know that these customers love their automobiles as most Americans and therefore love the services we provide. So much so that they will refer us new customers and tout our services. But they are willing to do much more if you ask them. Like referrals you get more when you simply ask. Let me give you another couple of ideas.

Have you ever seen a sign in the window of a business that says UPS YES/NO. Well, how about “Reflections Auto Detailing?(A Logo) with a slider for YES or NO. And on the other side a matchbox car glued to the slider handle. How about a sign that says; “No Soliciting Except For Reflections Auto Detailing?or a half sheet of paper that says; “Reflections Auto Detail Country? Your very best customers will let you put them up and it’s great advertising.

Counter Displays

Little brochure packs on counters work great especially in:

Travel Agencies

Fishing Stores

Tire Shops

Equestrian Accessory Stores

Jenny Craig

Weight Watchers

Hair Salons

Dry Cleaners

Sandwich Shops

Golf Course Prop Shops

If the owner is over fifty and also a small businessperson who enjoys your energy and drive, they will usually be receptive to this idea. If they are a young hussler, they’ll probably want you to pay to put a brochure pack on their counter top. If that is the case, then you should joke about doubling the price of their car wash or detail job, they’ll then laugh and let you put one up. Fair is fair. If they help you, you help them. Think about some other grass roots marketing techniques for you auto detailing business.
